Suspect swings ax at man during outdoor gathering

Published: February 27, 2013

A suspect struck another man with an ax several times Tuesday during an outdoor gathering near Fifth Avenue and 16th Street, according to a Columbus Police Department report.

The victim and witnesses told police that at about 11 p.m. they were sitting around a fire when a man came up and became upset because none of the men would give him a smoke. The men told him to leave, but he refused.

Later, the suspect approached the 36-year-old man and hit him several times with the blunt side of an ax.

No suspect description was available. The investigation is ongoing.
