Ambunda outpoints Singyu to claim WBO bantamweight crown

Published: March 2, 2013

Undefeated Paulus Ambunda scored a unanimous decision over champion Pungluang Sor Singyu to win the WBO bantamweight title in front of a partisan crowd in the new titleholder's hometown.

Ambunda (20-0) outpointed Singyu, who had won the title with a TKO of A.J. Banal in the Philippines back in October, by a 116-112 margin on two of the scorecards, with the third judge scoring it 115-113 in Ambunda's favor.

Singyu (43-2) suffered only his second defeat in 45 lifetime fights, with the Thai fighter's only other loss coming in a split-decision verdict to Stephane Jamoye in 2009.
