The annual Empty Bowl fundraiser for the Feeding the Valley Kids Cafe program attracted around 620 people Sunday at the Northside Recreation Center in Columbus.

Project manager Lisa Castile said more than $6,000 was raised for the program which prepares and delivers meals to need children in Columbus and Phenix City.

The event is sponsored by Columbus Parks and Recreation.

People attending got to choose a bowl that had been painted by patrons of the city recreation centers. They got to keep the bowl after eating their soup.
