Renovated Boxwood Community Center will reopen Saturday

The city’s parks and recreation department and office of crime prevention will bold a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday at 11 a.m. at the renovated Boxwood Community Center at 1110 Enoch Drive.

Joining city officials at the ceremony will be Sam Mitchell and Marc Upshaw, former NBA players and co-founders of the SAMARC Dream and Achieve Foundation. They will share brief remarks on the impact that the recreation centers have contributed to their character and success.

The G.W. Carver Drum Line will perform and and two exhibition basketball games will be played by the Georgia Jaguars girls team and the Muscogee County boys senior all-stars. Both teams are composed of high school students from each high school in Columbus.

There will also be activities for children and a tour of the facility, which will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
