A 46-year-old Smiths, Ala., woman died today after the dump truck she was driving blew a tire and went out of control on J.R. Allen Parkway, authorities said.

Teresa Cail was pronounced dead of massive injuries at the scene of the 1 p.m. accident about a half mile east of Schomburg Road, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Cail was driving eastbound when the right front tire on the truck blew, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck continued along the treeline, striking pine trees before it stopped.

A tree damaged the cab of the truck and struck Cail. Emergency Medical Services personnel used the “Jaws of Life” to free Cail from the wreckage.

Traffic in the area was blocked in some lanes while public safety officials investigated accident. East bound traffic was blocked on the parkway beginning at Schomburg Road. A passerby said access to J.R. Allen from Blackmon Road was temporarily blocked.
