Columbus police are investigating the Friday rape of a 31-year-old woman on the Chattahoochee Riverwalk near the Civic Center.

The woman was taken to The Medical Center where she was in stable condition. She sustained an injury to the right side of her temple.

Police said the woman was struck in the face with a closed fist and raped in the woods sometime between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Police did not have a description of a suspect as the investigation continues.
