Update: Man arrested in Sunday's murder in Opelika

Tuesday's story: Opelika police arrested Ashford Nickolas Milford, 33, of Opelika, Ala., in connected with the Sunday murder of Harvey Pete Sanford.

Investigators arrested Milford at a house in the 200 block of Raintree Street in Opelika. He's being charged with murder after an arrest warrant was ordered.

Milford was taken to the Lee County Detention Facility.

Monday's story: An Opelika, Ala. man was killed Sunday on Cherry Circle after he was shot in the abdomen, according to an Opelika Police Department press release.

Police arrived at the 1700 block of Cherry Circle at about 3:10 p.m. after receiving complaints of multiple gunshots in the area. They found 39-year-old Harvey Pete Sanford lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Several witnesses in the area reported seeing a gray or silver Mercedes speeding from the area after the gunshots. No description was given of a suspect.

Sanford was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center, where his death was declared at 11:35 p.m.
