Update: Suspect named in second Opelika murder of year

Update (Tuesday, 12:06 p.m.):

Opelika Police announced Tuesday that Montavious Kentrell Askew, 19, is suspected in the Sunday night murder of Andrew Cornelious Jones, according to a press release.

Askew, who also goes by "Dunke," has several reported residents in Opelika. He is described as a 6-foot-1-inch black man, weighing about 185 pounds.

An Opelika, Ala. man was shot on Dogwood Avenue Sunday night, according to an Opelika Police Department press release.

Andrew Cornelious Jones, 29, was found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen at about 9:10 p.m. on the 700 block of Dogwood Avenue. Witnesses told police that a gray vehicle was seen speeding from the area after gunshot was heard in the area.

Jones was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m.

Sunday night's shooting is the second murder investigation in Opelika for 2013.
