Paul Jolley, the kind of/sometimes country singer, was eliminated from "American Idol" Thursday night. Devin Velez and Amber Holcomb joined him in the bottom three.

I correctly predicted Paul's elimination. It wasn't too difficult -- he over-sang and lacked an emotional connection on stage. Plus, I never really saw him as a country singer. Amber's appearance in the bottom three was somewhat surprising, but I think it was a result of choosing a lesser-known Lennon–McCartney tune.

Discussion time: Did the right singer go home?

Unlike last week's results show, we didn't learn singers' individual placements. Eight singers remain in the competition: Lazaro Arbos, Janelle Arthur, Burnell Taylor, Angie Miller, Kree Harrison, Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb and Devin Velez.

Also on Thursday's show, "Idol" alum Casey Abrams sang a jazzy rendition of "“I Saw Her Standing There" while playing his bass. "Idol" runner-up Jessica Sanchez performed her new single, "Tonight," while joined by Ne-Yo. The song was a little bland, but Jessica has gained some serious stage presence since her time on "Idol."

Of course, the episode included the obligatory group songs. The guys performed a cheesy rendition of "Got to Get You into My Life." The women sounded much better on "Here, There and Everywhere."

In a pre-taped interview, mentor Jimmy Iovine criticized the "Idol" judges for being too nice. He said Lazaro delivered the worst performance Wednesday night.
