A man and woman were arrested Tuesday night at the Howard Johnson Express on Veterans Parkway after police received reports of prostitution and drug activity, according to Columbus Police Department reports.

Police arrived at the hotel on the 1000 block of Veterans Parkway at about 9 p.m. After knocking, Jeffery Daniel McGilvary, 41, answered the door. Police observed him attempt to conceal something between the mattress and the box frame on one of the beds, according to the report.

Britney Kaye Stuart, 20, looked scared and panicked when officers arrived. She whispered to an officer that McGilvary might have guns concealed in the mattress or the drawer between the beds. Police later located a pistol under the mattress, which had previously been reported as lost.

In the drawer between the beds, police found glass smoking devices with white residue. Police also found four grams of meth, two Xanax pills and two hydrocodone pills in the hotel room.

McGilvary was charged with possession of drug related objects, felony theft by receiving, possession of Schedule IV, III and II drugs, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and pandering.

Stuart was charged with possession of Schedule III and II drugs, possession of a drug related object and prostitution.

Both McGilvary and Stuart were taken to Muscogee County Jail.
