Update: Power back on downtown along Veterans Parkway, Second Avenue

A power outage in downtown along Veterans Parkway and Second Avenue has been fixed, according to a Georgia Power spokesman.

About 560 customers and a number of traffic lights in the downtown area lost power due a breaker problem about 9:30 a.m., according to Spokesman Robert Watkins. The problem was corrected in about 45 minutes, but not before police officers were put at major intersections to direct traffic.

"A piece of equipment failed," Watkins said. "We have secured the problem and everyone is back on."
