The Muscogee County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death early Saturday of a 19-year-old Columbus State University student.

Giselle Ortiz was pronounced dead at The Medical Center after she was stricken about 10:22 a.m. at her downtown dorm on 10th Street, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Her body will be sent to Atlanta for an autopsy on Monday, he said.

“She was in the dorm room and complained of not feeling well,” Bryan said. “She went into cardiac arrest.”

There is no preliminary cause of the student’s death, but Bryan said she was taking medication for lupus.

In a posting on Facebook, Ortiz is identified as a music student at CSU and a resident of Powder Springs, Ga. She attended at McEachern High School.
