Superintendent search: Next step 'undefined;' no interviews scheduled

After Monday's called meeting, the Muscogee County School Board went into closed session for about 15 minutes to discuss an undisclosed personnel matter.

Board chairman Rob Varner of District 5 didn't have much to say when asked for an update on the superintendent search, now 14 months after Susan Andrews announced her retirement.

Asked for the next step, Varner said, "It's undefined."

Asked why that is, he said, "I really can't discuss it."

The board interviewed an undisclosed candidate April 28 in Atlanta. Varner wouldn't say whether that candidate still is a viable option, but he did say no other interviews are scheduled at this point.
