Mother's Day 2013 deals: Free food at Hooters

ssorich@ledger-enquirer.comMay 10, 2013

Forget the traditional brunch and take Mom to Hooters on Mother's Day.

If you're not sold on the idea, maybe your opinion will change after learning you won't have to pay for her meal.

That's right: Moms eat free at Hooters on Sunday, May 12. The deal applies to dine-in meals that cost $10 or less, and she must purchase a drink. Also, Mom must be accompanied by one or more of her offspring. Learn more here.

Naturally, the idea has some critics. USA Today notes "the chain has made some progress with women," though many people still regard the restaurant as a boys-only club that's demeaning to the opposite gender.

Those issues aside, there's something a little strange about taking Mom out for Mother's Day and not picking up her tab. At the very least, I suggest the Hooters route for lunch followed by a nice dinner on Mother's Day.

My grandma once raved about a rumored senior citizen discount at Hooters. She never mentioned servers' abundant cleavage or super-short shorts. She did, however, repeatedly remind me that the price was simply phenomenal.

Bottom line: When you're getting something for cheap -- or free -- you sometimes overlook a lot. And generally, that's OK.

But only bring Mom to Hooters if she suggests the idea herself...and you're sure you can control your wandering eye.
