Miami wins series opener against Georgia Tech

MIAMI -- Miami roughed up Georgia Tech starter Buck Farmer on its way to a 8-3 victory Thursday night.

The Hurricanes (34-20, 13-15 ACC) scored seven runs -- five earned -- on nine hits in six innings off Farmer.

Garrett Kennedy knocked in a pair of runs for Miami. Alex Hernandez had a pair of hits and scored two runs.

Mott Hyde hit a two-run home for the Jackets (32-22, 14-14) in the seventh inning.

Zane Evans had a pair of hits and an RBI.

The two teams play again Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on CSS.
