Columbus police arrest couple for shoplifting at Burlington Coat Factory

May 18, 2013

Columbus police arrested James Shue, 52, of Bradley Circle and Carrie Miller, 41, of Midland Chase Loop on a felony charge of theft by shoplifting Thursday night.

According to a police report and testimony during Saturday’s preliminary hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court, an officer was dispatched at 9:30 p.m. to the Burlington Coat Factory store at 2911 Airport Thruway in reference to a possible theft.

During the investigation, police found merchandise without proper tags totalling $257.79 on the suspects. Shue, who testified that he has committed “multiple violent crimes” in his past, tried to protect Miller. He contended that she is innocent because she was under the impression that he would pay for the merchandise. Miller confirmed Shue’s story.

Judge Michael Joyner ordered Shue held on a $2,500 bond and reduced Muller’s charge to a misdemeanor with a $500 bond.
