You might be a redneck if you haven't paid your credit card bill

Southerners are good at a lot of things, but maybe we’re not financially savvy.

In a recent report from TransUnion, Georgia and Alabama are among the states with the highest credit card delinquency rates for the first quarter of 2013. Alabama ranked No. 2, while Georgia ranked No. 4. All of the top four entries are Southern states.

Mississippi (No. 1) and Arkansas (No. 3) joined Alabama and Georgia on the list.

Nationally, the credit card delinquency rate decreased in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the first quarter of 2012, TransUnion reports. "Credit card delinquency rate" refers to "the ratio of borrowers 90 or more days past due."

Does the abundance of Southern states on the "most delinquent" list indicate something about our region? I'm not sure.

Either way, it's a good idea to pay your credit card bill. Here's some advice for managing credit card debt.

And being a redneck isn't an excuse for financial irresponsibility. If Mama June can save money by couponing, so can you.
