Closing ceremony set for Edgewood Elementary School

Edgewood Elementary School invites the public, especially its former students and staff, to attend the school's closing ceremony Friday at 1:30 p.m.

The Muscogee County School District is closing Edgewood and Marshall Middle School because of state budget cuts.

Laverne Melton, the parent liaison at Edgewood, said in a news release that the ceremony is expected to last no longer than 45 minutes and will include remarks from principal Melana Cassell, lowering of the flags, a balloon liftoff and possibly a group photograph.

Marshall principal Michael Forte said no closing ceremony is planned at his school.
