Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Atkinson was in town Thursday for a lecture and book signing at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center.

A best-selling author of six works of narrative military history, Atkinson has completed his "Liberation Trilogy" with "The Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944-1945."

This final installment tells the story of the American military's role in the liberation of Europe in World War II.

Atkinson has been a reporter, a war correspondent and was a senior editor at The Washington Post. His awards include Pulitzer Prizes for journalism and history, the George Polk Award and the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in military writing.
