A vote on the general fund budget for fiscal year 2014 tops the agenda items for tonight's Muscogee County School Board meeting.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. today in the Muscogee County Public Education Center on Macon Road.
The proposed $270,596,469 budget includes no furlough days for teachers.
In other business:
The board will vote on a contract renewal for interim Superintendent John Phillips, who is currently working part time as the search for a superintendent to replace Susan Andrews continues.
A vote will be taken to approve or reject a proposed procedure for an FY14 reduction in force being caused by budget cuts. The proposed procedure has teachers being judged on performance rather than seniority and calls for a tribunal to which employees may appeal their firing. Last week officials said up to 20 teachers may be fired.
The board will vote to approve or reject the appointment of Alan Harkness as director of Chattahoochee Valley Libraries.
A vote will be taken on a board resolution that authorizes travel for board members and reimbursement for expenses to Georgia School Board Association, National School Board Association and other conferences approved by the board.
River Road Elementary students will begin wearing uniforms in the 2013-2014 school year if the board gives its approval.
Another vote will also concern River Road. An after-school program, similar to those at Allen Elementary, Britt David Magnet Academy and Wynnton Arts Academy, is being requested. The program would be funded through registration and weekly participation fees.
The board will decide whether to approve proceeding with the demolition of the old school administration building at 1200 Bradley Drive and award a contract to the low bidder, Complete Demolition Services. On July 31, 2012, the board approved the transferring of the property to the Columbus Museum for its exclusive use.
