Six Lions earn PIFL honors

Six Columbus Lions earned All-Professional Indoor Football League honors, it was announced Wednesday, including one player -- LeRoy Vann, earning honors at two positions.

Four of those players -- Anthony Shutt, Jarmon Fortson, Vann and Justen Rivers -- made the first team, while two -- Vann, Maurice Dupree and Dion Small -- made the second team.

Vann is the first player to earn league honors at two positions in the same season.

He led the PIFL in 511 return yards and two touchwowns and earned first team honors as a kick returner. He also made the second team as a defensive back after he was second on the Lions with five interceptions. He returned three of those for touchdowns.

Shutt was the leading vote getter at defensive back. Shutt finished the season with a league-leading nine interceptions. He also led the Lions with 52.5 tackles.

Shutt signed a contract with the AFL's Orlando Predators last week.

Forton (Carver, WR/LB) won the inaugural All-Iron man award after finishing in the top 10 in tackles with 46 and three interceptions. He finished third on the Lions with 32 catches for 444 yards and seven touchdowns.

Rivers (Hardaway, linebacker) led the Lions with eight sacks to earn first-team honors. This is his third time on the team, previously earning honors in 2009 and 2011.

Dupree, a wide receiver, led the team in receptions (55), yards (902) and touchdowns (20). Small, an offensive lineman, made the second team for the second straight year.

The Lions finished the 2013 season at 4-8 and failed to make the playoffs, which start with the semifinals on Monday.
