Former Columbus State player Brett Teschner signed a free-agent deal with the Texas Rangers this week.
He has been assigned to the Rangers team in the Arizona Rookie League in Surprise, Ariz.
Teschner played two seasons for the Cougars.
This past season, he played in all 52 games, splitting time as a catcher and a designated hitter. He hit .333 with 25 extra-base hits. He was second on the team with 54 RBIs.
Teschner is the second CSU player this summer to join a MLB organization as Cameron Griffin was drafted by the New York Mets. Griffin is currently with the Gulf Coast League Mets located in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
