Columbus police issue arrest warrant for suspect in David Rutherford homicide

An arrest warrant for a suspect in the murder of David Rutherford has been issued by Columbus police.

Being sought is Cody Jamal Mathis, a 17-year-old black male who is 5-foot-7 and weighs 130 pounds.

Mathis is considered armed and dangerous and anyone who comes in contact with him should use extreme caution.

Anyone with information about him should contact police at 706-653-3400.

Rutherford, 57, was found dead on Wednesday in the parking lot behind Greater Ward Chapel on Talbotton Road.

Police investigated the area where he was found and also the area around his house on 28th Street.

Rutherford's body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.

The exact cause of death will be determined there.

Rutherford was a former radio personality in Columbus.
