Northern beats Pioneer to win District 8's 9-10 softball all-star title

The first champion of the 2013 District 8 Little League All-Star tournament was crowned Saturday.

Northern beat Pioneer 11-2 to win the 9-10 softball title. With the title, Northern advanced to the state tournament, which will be hosted by Pioneer later this month.

The District 8 tournament, which is being hosted by Sally Little League at Shirley Winston Park, has been disrupted by rain several times this week.

Pioneer and Northern will meet in two other softball championship games. The senior softball title will be played today at 2 p.m. while the major softball will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

In the 9-10 baseball tournament, Albany and Northern will play in the losers bracket final at 4 p.m. today. The winner will meet American in the final at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

A pair of games were suspended in the 10-11 baseball tournament Saturday. Pioneer and Harris County and Sally and American will try to finish their games at noon Sunday. The winners will meet at 2.

Peach advanced to the championship game with a win over Northern Saturday. Northern will play Sunday's survivor in a game Monday.

In major baseball, Northern and American will try for the fourth time to get their game in at 4 p.m. Sunday. It has been postponed by rain on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Harris County and Peach play in a losers bracket game at 2 p.m. Sunday.
