Trade Center parking deck ramp project delayed by rain

Last week’s constant rain has delayed work on repairing the entrance and exit ramps leading into the Columbus Trade and Convention Center’s parking deck, Executive Director David Bevans said Tuesday.

“We’re trying to play catch-up now,” Bevans said.

The ramps needed to be replaced because a drain collapsed beneath them, dropping the surface about four inches, Bevans said. That caused some cars to bottom out and hit the concrete when entering.

City Manager Isaiah Hugley at first sent the Public Works Department to see if it could repair the problem, but Director Pat Biegler said the job was beyond the expertise of her work crews, so the work was contracted out.

Workers removed the driveways, replaced the collapsed drains and are in the process of pouring new concrete ramps.

The $40,000 project is expected to be complete in about two weeks, weather permitting, Bevans said.
