A preliminary autopsy report shows a Phenix City woman was pregnant before she was strangled in her home at Edmond Estates, authorities said Tuesday.
There was a fetus, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said of homicide victim, Caneya T. Webb, 26.
Relatives found Webbs body in her 1302 Sixth Place South apartment about 3:50 p.m. on June 28. Sumbry said she was manually strangled, causing her death.
Investigators with the Phenix City Police Department have charged her live-in boyfriend with murder. Curtis Durall Newsome, 28, was stopped for a traffic violation in Troup County about 6 a.m. that day on Interstate 85 before he was developed as a suspect. He was returned to Phenix City on July 1 and held on a murder charge in the Russell County Jail.
A day after the mother of three was found slain, neighbors said she was about three months pregnant. She was the mother of two young girls and a boy. The fetus was discovered during an autopsy at the Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery, Ala. Sumbry said he was notified Monday of the findings in the preliminary report.
Police wouldnt specify when the woman may have been killed, but have said authorities narrowed it down to an eight-hour window.
Police were unavailable to comment late Tuesday on the investigation.
