Alabama's Brian Vogler on John Mackey Award preseason list

July 11, 2013

Alabama tight end Brian Vogler is among 37 tight ends named to the John Mackey Award preseason list.

Vogler, who will be a junior this upcoming season, is a Brookstone school product.

Vogler is joined on the list by Georgia's Arthur Lynch and Auburn's C.J. Uzomah.

Vogler started two games last season and played in all 14 as Alabama won its second straight BCS national championship.

He caught two passes for 21 yards. But it was his blocking that earned him praise from coach Nick Saban, especially as Alabama's running game went for 350 yards against Georgia in the SEC championship game.

Lynch started 13 of 14 games last season for Georgia, finishing with 24 catches foir 431 yards and three touchdowns.

Uzomah caught seven passes for 136 yards last season, including a touchdown pass against Texas A&M.

The Mackey Award is given annually to the nation's top tight end.
