Avalon Apartment unit damaged during kitchen fire

A kitchen fire at Avalon Apartments caused about $7,000 worth of damage to a unit Thursday evening, according to a Columbus Police report.

Police and fire fighters arrived at Avalon Apartments on the 3700 block of Cusseta Road at about 6:50 p.m. Thursday after an officer heard a fire alarm going off. When he arrived at the apartment where the alarm was sounding from, smoke and water were coming out of the front door. When police found the resident of the apartment, he had first degree burns on his right arm and hand.

No other injuries were reported during the incident.
