LaGrange police arrest prisoner on work detail near animal shelter on drug chrarge

Police in LaGrange, Ga., have arrested Joseph Deval Dixon on drug charges. Dixon, a prisoner at the Troup County Correctional Institute, was on a work detail at the time of his arrest.

Dixon was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and criminal attempt to cross a guard line with a controlled substance.

The arrest was made near the LaGrange Animal Shelter.

Police had begun an investigation after receiving information that an amount of marijuana was going to be delivered to the inmate at the shelter location.

According to the police report, Dixon was observed retrieving an item at the location and concealing it before walking into the shelter.

The report said that approximately one-half ounce of marijuana was found.
