Monday Mail: Duck and cover for media pitch

July 14, 2013

The boys in the newsroom got a running bet, and it's Monday Mail.

Today's opening is from the song "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley.

Media pitch

Here's an opportunity to get outside and for a good cause enjoy this salubrious summer weather. It's an invitation from Sheriff's Sgt. Kasey Trombley:

Please join the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office on Saturday, July 20, at 4 p.m., as we host a Family Fun Day and Movie Under the Stars to benefit Project Lifesaver. The event will be held at Northern Little League, 6800 Psalmond Road. There will be over 35 vendors to include boutiques, jewelry, food, resources and more. We will also have a Kids Fun Zone area with bouncy houses, obstacle courses and dunking booth, where two of our local media friends will be getting dunked to raise money and awareness for Project Lifesaver. At dark we will be playing "The Croods" on a 40-foot screen thanks to Funflicks of Georgia.

Project Lifesaver provides Law Enforcement with a program to quickly locate and rescue "at risk" individuals with cognitive disorders who are at constant risk to the life_threatening behavior of wandering off, to include those with Autism, Down Syndrome and Alzheimer's Disease. Additional information on Project Lifesaver can be found at

Dear Kasey:

Who are the media friends getting dunked? Do you get to throw at their heads to knock them off the perch or do you have to aim for a target off to the side?

Social media

And if that doesn't sound like enough of an opportunity to impact the local media, get this. It's from District 2 U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop's office:

Just wanted to quickly get in touch regarding a contest Congressman Bishop is holding for Southwest and Middle Georgia. For the second year in a row, our office is holding a photo competition for shots taken in Southwest and Middle Georgia. As a media guy and very amateur photographer myself, I know that our field holds some pretty good talent when it comes to wielding a camera. That being said, I wanted to personally invite you to take part in our little challenge. Have a photo you like of Southwest or Middle Georgia? Submit it to, check out the competition once they are posted to Facebook, and if your picture can get the most 'likes,' we will feature it as our Facebook cover photo (with full credit).

Georgia can offer some beautiful and interesting scenes, so we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to showcase their skill in capturing that beauty. Feel free to share with your co-workers and

friends, and I look forward to your submission!

Hope all is well,

Maxwell Gigle

Press Secretary,

Office of Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA).

Dear Max:

May the image be a nude? I have a lot of photos of naked dogs in various, sometimes graphic poses.

But then you have to be careful who might be turned on by that, here in Columbus.
