Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador advanced to the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup by way of their respective wins at BBVA Compass Stadium on Monday.
Trinidad and Tobago earned a 2-0 victory over 10-man Honduras, which was already guaranteed top spot in Group B after picking up maximum points from its opening two matches.
Honduras had Jose Valesquez sent off in the 38th minute, allowing T&T to capitalize on the extra man as Kenwyne Jones converted a penalty in the 48th minute. Kevin Molino added an insurance goal in the 67th minute.
Trinidad and Tobago finished second in the group with four points after El Salvador only managed a 1-0 win over Haiti on Monday. Rodolfo Zelaya had his penalty kick in the 75th minute saved but he managed to turn in the rebound to lift El Salvador to four points, leaving the nation behind Trinidad on goals scored.
El Salvador will face Mexico in the quarterfinals on Saturday while the other pairings will be determined based on the outcomes of Tuesday's Group C matches.
