Weekend activities: Watch 'The Land Before Time' outside for free tonight

Family activities abound this weekend with Family Fun Day at the Northern Little League fields, screenings of "The Goonies and "Alice in Wonderland" and a kid-friendly performance of "Honk Jr.: The Musical." Here's a sample of events happening this weekend in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Free Movie on the Lawn: Entertainment, jump houses, refreshments and a screening of the family classic "The Land Before Time" will take place today (July 19) on the front lawn of the Columbus Public Library, 3000 Macon Road. Jump houses will be available starting at 7 p.m., with entertainment provided by clown and juggler Lew-E starting at 7:30 p.m. The movie will start at sundown. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available for purchase, and families are invited to bring blankets for seating. For details, visit cvlga.org or call 706-243-2669.

"The Shining:" The Springer Opera House screens the film at 7 p.m. today (July 19). Head to The Players Saloon an hour before show time for concessions, games and trivia. Tickets cost $10, $8 for children 12 and younger. This is the last weekend for the Springer Summer Film Series. For details, visit springeroperahouse.org.

Family Fun Day: The Muscogee County Sheriff's Office sponsors the event to benefit Project Lifesaver beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday (July 20) at the Northern Little League fields, 6800 Psalmond Road. Project Lifesaver helps officers locate and rescue "at risk" individuals with cognitive disorders such as autism, Down Syndrome and Alzheimer's disease, who are at risk of wandering off. Activities include a children's play area with a bouncy house and slides; a vendor fair; and a movie under the stars, "The Croods," to be shown at dark. Bring blankets and chairs. Admission is free but donations for "Project Lifesaver" are encouraged.

Historic Linwood Cemetery Walking Tour: The tour will last about 90 minutes, and will explore "The Stone Carvers." Meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday (July 20) at Lummus Chapel on 10th Avenue. Bring water and umbrella for shade. It's free. 706-321-8285.

Uptown's Market Days: Purchase produce, crafts, baked goods and artwork by local vendors 9 a.m.-noon every Saturday along the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Broadway in downtown Columbus.

Saturday Drop-In Tours: Take a one-hour tour of the Columbus Museum's exhibits with a weekend gallery guide at 2 p.m. every Saturday. It's free. 706-748-2562, ext. 651. For more details, visit columbusmuseum.com.
