A big recruit: Five-star DL Galliard commits to Georgia

ATHENS - Georgia's busy recruiting summer rolled on Saturday night, as the Bulldogs reeled in a major out-of-state prospect.

Defensive lineman Lamont Galliard, rated a five-star prospect by 247Sports, committed to Georgia, per multiple recruiting sites.

Galliard is the top-rated prospect in North Carolina for the 2014 class by 247Sports. Assuming he holds on his commitment and signs, that would give Georgia the top prospect in North Carolina twice in the past three years, dating back to Keith Marshall in the 2012 class. (Fellow tailback Todd Gurley was also from North Carolina.)

Galliard is listed at 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, projecting as a nose tackle. He is the 16th commitment overall for Georgia's 2014 class, and the second defensive lineman, joining Dontavius Russell of Carrollton.

Georgia vaulted to No. 2 nationally in the 2014 rankings, behind only Tennessee, though of course it bears noting that signing day is still more than six months away.
