Mint chocolate chip, rocky road or something else? Sunday, July 21, is National Ice Cream Day 2013.

Former President Ronald Reagan designated the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. He also made July National Ice Cream Month.

Looking for ways to celebrate? Um, eat ice cream. On National Ice Cream Day, Bruster's Real Ice Cream locations in Columbus will add a free extra scoop to your ice cream cone, according to a post on the company's Facebook page.

Here are a few fun facts about ice cream, according to the National Ice Cream Retailers Association.

* It takes approximately 50 licks to finish off a scoop of ice cream.

* The United States is the top ice cream consuming country in the world.

* Vanilla is the No. 1 selling flavor.

* Many people believe ice cream was invented in China.

Discussion time: What's your favorite ice cream flavor? And another pressing question...cup or cone?
