There's a Hall of Fame ceremony Saturday

It's a little publicized group, but the High School Band Directors National Association meets in Columbus every year.

Really. And it's quite a group.

The annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Columbus Convention & Trade Center, 801 Front Ave.

The 2013 inductees are Michael Nakasone of Hawaii, Bruce Dinkins of Texas, Bud McCormick of New Jersey, Archie Sharretts of Georgia and Ed Watkins of Alabama.

They are being recognized for their influence and impact they have had on their schools and students.

Members of the Hall of Fame include John Philip Sousa, Bob Carr (former conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and beloved leader of the Jordan High School band) and Hal Gibson (of Columbus State University). Four are members of the Muscogee County School District, including George Corradino, Oliver Boone, William Pharris and Vincent Rosse.

The High School Band Directors National Association Museum is in the Yancey Center in One Arsenal Place.

The ceremony is free.
