Northern beats Florida in Little League Southeast Regional


WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Northern pitcher Trent Grantham scattered seven hits, struck out 10 and blanked Martin County, Fla., 3-0 on Monday in the Little League Southeastern Regional.

Despite the win, Northern, which finished pool play with a 1-2 record, will not advance to the championship semifinals. Instead, Northern, the No. 4 seed from Pool A, will play in the consolation semifinals Tuesday at 1 p.m. against West Virginia.

It will be Northern's final game.

Florida won the pool despite the loss. It will play in the championship semifinals Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Tennessee.

Northern scored all of its runs in the bottom of the second.

Zach Foster led off and reached on an error. Ben Sloan and Josh Evans both walked with a strikeout in between to load the bases.

Colby Brabston got the only hit of the inning on an infield single that scored Foster. Austin Hicks was hit by a pitch, driving in Sloan. Evans scored the final run on a passed ball.

Noah Lee got Northern's only other hit, a leadoff single in the fifth.
