Northern beats West Virginia in consolation game


WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- Colby Brabston hit a homer and drove in three runs and Trent Grantham knocked in three as Northern beat Barboursville, W. Va., 10-9 in a consolation game Tuesday the Little League Southeastern Regional.

The game was the final one for Northern in the regional. Northern went 1-2 in pool play and did not qualify for Wednesday's championship semifinals.

Northern scored seven runs in the third inning to erase a 4-1 deficit. But West Virginia rallied and tied the game with four runs in the fourth.

Northern took a 9-8 lead in the fifth as Anna Runyon drew a bases-loaded walk.

After West Virginia tied the game in the top of the sixth, Grantham singled in the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

Noah Lee was the winning pitcher. He pitched the final three innings and allowed five runs (one earned) on three hits. Austin Hick started and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits in three innings.

Northern was able to win despite making seven errors.
