High school roundup: Columbus softball teams goes 2-1 in Cherokee tournament

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Columbus High softball team finished 2-1 Saturday in the rain-plagued Cherokee Tournament.

After splitting with Etowah (won 6-1) and Harrison (lost 9-0) on Friday, the Blue Devils beat Woodland 8-0 on Saturday in the only game they were able to complete.

The Blue Devils were losing to Blessed Trinity 6-4 in the sixth inning when that game was stopped.

SEQUOYAH, Ga. -- The Northside volleyball team finished second in the gold bracket after going 1-2 on Saturday, beating Whitewater, but then losing to Woodstock and Newnan.

Carly Smart led the Patrtiots with 51 assists, 24 digs, nine kills, four blocks and two aces.Saturday at Sequoyah

COLUMBUS GOES 2-2

ATLANTA -- Natalie Twyford had 18 kills, 4 blocks, an ace and 10 digs as Columbus went 2-2 in the State Champions tournament on Saturday.

The top two teams in each classification were invited to play.

Columbus, which finished as the Class AAAA runner-up, beat the team it lost to, Sandy Creek.Saturday at Holy Innocents'
