Man killed, woman seriously injured in car crash on I-65

A man is dead and a woman is being treated for serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash near Birmingham Thursday, according to a press release from the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

Jackie Alan Faircloth, 68, was riding on I-65 without a seat belt in a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Thursday at about 7:15 a.m., Thursday when a Jemison, Ala. driver in a 1997 Toyota Camry collided with them. Faircloth died shortly after the accident.

While the driver of the Camry was not injured, the Tallassee, Ala. woman driving the Cherokee Faircloth was riding in received serious injuries and had to be transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital.

The speed of either driver was not available Thursday. More details will be added as they are available.
