Montgomery, Ala. -- Escambia Academy took advantage of three fumble recoveries and a blocked punt while a stable of backs ran for more than 415 yards as the Cougars beat Glenwood 53-26 Saturday night at John Mark Stallings field at Faulkner University.

Every turnover the Gators made except the fourth and final fumble with 31 seconds to play initiated a scoring opportunity for the Cougars, who had two backs to go over the 100-yard mark -- Tim Finklea (131) and Kris Brown (113).

The Cougars' first touchdown was set up by a fumble recovery on Glenwood's second offensive play and Gordon Brooks scored his first touchdown.

The teams traded touchdowns and it was 13-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Glenwood got a score off a turnover, an interception by Mikey Starke, which that led to a short-lived 19-13 lead. Undriel Copeland ran for the final 13 yards to give the Gators their only lead of the game.

The Cougars then blocked a Starke punt and drove 35 yards to tie the score at 19-19 with Finklea getting the score. The Gators then fumbled in the final two minutes of the first half. Three plays later, Brooks got his second score and then ran for the two-pointer for a 27-19 lead.

"We have a lot of good players, but we are very young. We need to become more consistent on both sides of the ball," Glenwood coach Tripp Henderson said.

The Cougars took the opening kickoff of the third period and drove 66 yards to increase the lead to 33-19. Glenwood thought it had a 65-yard touchdown pass from Humphries to Dylan Denny, but it was nullified by a holding call.

"That is the kind of thing I am talking about," Henderson said following the contest.

Both teams scored three touchdowns in the frantic final minute and a half. Finklea scored on a 95-yard kickoff return and Brown had a 53-yard score sandwiched between Humphries' 87-yard touchdown pass to Denny that did count.
