Harris County looks to senior Esaias Chapman for leadership

August 25, 2013

Coach: Tommy Parks, 10th year, 48-48 (48-48 overall)

Assistant coaches: Jamie Fox, offensive coordinator, Danny Durham, defensive coordinator, Jimmy Dudley, Derrick Arrington, Adam Bright, Tracy Powell, Steve Westmoreland, Jonathon Thompson, T.J. Norman

Homefield: Tiger Stadium

2012 record: 8-5, lost to Gainesville 64-13 in the Class AAAAA state quarterfinal

Region: 1-AAAAAGood news: You can't get much better news than having a senior running back Esaias Chapman, who rushed for 2,124 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior, except, perhaps, returning a couple of top-notch offensive linemen, as well. This team, which played in the state quarterfinals last season, may be even stronger in 2013. What's more, it can enter the season with confidence and swagger it built during an eight-game winning streak last season.

Bad news: Replacing graduated Jay Ellison on defense won't be easy and there's always a few growing pains with a new man under center. Despite a magical eight-game winning streak last year, the Tigers did lose their first four games of the season. It can't count on being able to recover from a slow start again in 2013.

Our take: Harris County has what it takes to win the region again, though it will face stiff competition from some improved teams. Anything less than a playoff berth would be a disappointment.
