Wynnton Academy, built in 1843, is the oldest building in continuous use as a school in the the state of Georgia and among the oldest in the country. The dedicating societies are the Colonial Dames XVII Century (Major Peter Field Chapter), Daughters of American Colonists (Columbus Chapter), and Daughters of Colonial Wars in the State of Georgia. The marker was dedicated by Eunice Carr and unveiled by Lynne Allen Tate, Regina Ragan, Carol Ann Morrison and Ann Scott Williams.
