Playing in the backyard turned dangerous for an 8-year-old girl Saturday after she was bitten by a pit bull on South Lumpkin Road, according to a Columbus Police report.

Officers met with the girl and her custodians at The Medical Center about an hour after she was allegedly bitten by a pit bull while playing in her step-father's friend's backyard. The dog bite left two small lacerations requiring stitches on her upper lip. No serious injuries were reported.

Animal control reportedly responded to the scene, but there was no information Monday morning on whether the dog was impounded after the incident.
