Confiscated crack cocaine was the result of a foot pursuit Monday after an officer chased a fleeing loiterer, according to a Columbus Police report.

An officer was patrolling Booker T. Washington Apartments Monday at about 4:35 p.m. when he spotted two men allegedly loitering near one of the buildings. When he stopped and attempted to approach them, they ran. One suspect made his escape after he split off toward Victory Drive, forcing the officer to attempt to apprehend 26-year-old Roddrick Luke.

As Luke ran into someone else's apartment in the complex, the officer observed him tossing a plastic bag onto the couch as he went. Police arrested him shortly afterward.

Police found .2 grams of crack cocaine, valued at $20, and two separate bags containing one gram of marijuana each. The marijuana was valued at $20, as well.

Without being asked, Luke told officers that the drugs were his but he did not sell them. The resident of the apartment also informed officers that Luke did not live there, nor did she know him.

Luke was charged with loitering, obstruction of law enforcement, possession of marijuana and possession of crack cocaine. He was transported to Muscogee County Jail.
