Mayor Teresa Tomlinson and the city’s Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity are encouraging residents to join in the “Let Freedom Ring” celebration at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Citizens can join in the commemoration by ringing church bells, school bells or hand bells, the mayor said.

The celebration is to mark the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s famed “I Have a Dream” speech.

Tomlinson will join Muscogee County School Superintendent David Lewis at Martin Luther King Elementary School Wednesday at 3 o’clock for a bell-ringing ceremony.
