NORTHSIDE VS. SHAW

Time: 7 p.m.

Records: Northside 0-0 (2-7-1 last season), Shaw 0-0 (6-5 last season)

Last week: Season opener for both teams

Last meeting: Shaw beat Nortrhside 21-0 last season.

Series record: Shaw leads 6-3 with last year's win ending a three-game losing streak to Northside.

You need to know: Morgan Ingram takes over for Paul Cates as Northside's coach. Ingram was 10-10 in two years at Hardaway before he left to become Northside's athletic director. … Ingram has preached a more physical style of play, and that is how the team has practiced this fall. … The Patriots will be led by senior quarterback Jonathan Karastury. … In his first season as Shaw's head coach, Kyle Adkins got the Raiders back on track toward their hey-day of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Shaw went 6-4 and made the Class AAAA state playoffs.

RUSSELL COUNTYAT CENTRAL

Where: Garrett-Harrison Stadium

Time: 7 p.m.

Records: Russell County 0-0 (3-6-1 last season), Central 0-0 (7-4 last season)

Last week: Season opener for both teams

Last season: Central beat Russell County 48-0

Series record: Central leads 18-3 with last year's win being the fifth straight. Russell County's last win in the series came in 2007, 26-20 in overtime.

You need to know: This is the second straight year in which Russell County and Central will open at Garrett-Harrison on a Thursday night. … Russell County heads into its second year under Demond McCoy. The Warriors made some strides last season in winning three games. But they still have some growing to do before they make their first playoff appearance since the 2001 season. … Central is led by Traveon Samuel, a junior running back/wide receiver, who has more than a dozen FBS offers already. He rushed for 647 yards and 16 touchdowns and added 788 yards and four touchdowns receiving last year. … Central is 12-0 at home against Russell County.

Harris County vs. Houston County

Where: McConnell-Talbert Stadium, Warner Robins

Time: 7 p.m.

Records: Harris County 0-0 (8-5 last season), Houston County 0-0 (3-7 last season)

Last week: Season opener for both teams

Last season: Harris County lost to Houston County 35-23

Series record: Houston County leads 3-2. Houston County won in 1992 and '93 in addition to last year. Harris County's wins came in '94 and '95.

You need to know: Harris County won eight straight games after losing the first four lasr season. The Tigers captured the Region 1-AAAAA championship and advanced to the state quarterfinals before losing eventual state champion Gainesville. … Esaias Chapman returns for the Tigers. The senior running back rushed for 2,124 yards and 22 touchdowns a year ago. … Houston County is heading into Year 1 with Von Lassiter at the helm. He takes over for Greg Robinson, who went 17-33 in five seasons. … Houston County returns quarterback Taylor Boyett, who set a school record with 1,588 yards passing a year ago.
