Jets sign QB Harrell

The Sports NetworkAugust 29, 2013

The New York Jets signed quarterback Graham Harrell on Wednesday.

A former backup to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, Harrell has thrown just four passes in the NFL since signing with the Packers as a free agent in 2010.

In the preseason, he went 23-for-42 for 169 yards and an interception before being released by the Packers on Saturday.

The former Texas Tech star is expected to compete for the backup job as regular starter Mark Sanchez has a shoulder injury, and Greg McLeroy is battling an ankle injury.

Also on Wednesday, the team released undrafted rookie center Dalton Freeman.
