The Columbus State men's basketball team will have a chance to get off to a good start in the upcoming season with a schedule that features seven of the first nine games at home in the Lumpkin Center.

CSU released its 26-game 2013-14 schedule Friday. CSU will play 15 home games. The Cougars open the schedule with seven non-Peach Belt Conference conference games, then finish with 19 straight conference games.

"This schedule sets up very well for us this year," said CSU coach Robert Moore, who is heading into his fourth season, "… giving our fans and students the chance to see all of our new players on this year's team."

"Our non-conference opponents will prepare us for the always tough Peach Belt Conference schedule."

CSU had previously announced an exhibition game against at Division I UAB on Nov. 8. While that game will not count on CSU's record, it will for UAB.

CSU will open the regular season at home on Nov. 21 against Carver Bible College. That will make the first time CSU has opened at home since the 2008-09 season.

In those seven non-PBC games, they have a home-and-away with both West Georgia and Fort Valley State.

CSU opens the PBC schedule at home on Dec. 14 against Montevallo, which has made the NCAA Division II tournament in each of the past four seasons.

The Cougars host Clayton State in another PBC game on Dec. 17.

That is CSU's last game until Jan. 2, when it plays at Lander.

CSU will host the PBC tournament for the third straight season. It will begin on March 7.
