Hardaway 51, Jordan 18: Justin Crawford scores three times in Hardaway's win

Hardaway rides offensive explosion to victory

Special to the Ledger-EnquirerAugust 30, 2013

The Hardaway Hawks and Jordan Red Jackets launched the 2013 football season with an offensive explosion at Kinnett Stadium on Friday night.

Hardaway overpowered the Jackets 51-18.

The victory was the 11th straight for Hardaway over Jordan. The Jackets have now dropped 25 consecutive contests. The last Jordan victory came in 1996.

Junior running back Justin Crawford was expected to carry a great deal of the offensive load this season. Crawford didn't disappoint, scoring three touchdowns and having a fourth called back. Crawford, a member of the Ledger-Enquirer's Dandy Dozen, scored on runs of 41, 3 and 59 yards.

Senior quarterback William Harris tossed three scoring passes for the Jackets, to three different receivers.

Hardaway built a 34-6 halftime lead. The Hawks had seven first-half possessions and scored on five of them.

They lost the football once on downs and fumbled once. They scored one passing touchdown, three on the ground and one after recovering a fumble.

It appeared that the Hawks would take a 34-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. But Harris led a late march, driving from his own 31 to the end zone as the horn sounded, getting the Red Jackets on the board.

Jordan scored once in each period, including a pair of late scores.

In addition to the Harris-to-Tim Griggs pass before halftime, Harris threw a 34-yarder which was deflected right into Javante West's hands with 5:07 left in the third quarter.

The Jackets' final score came with 4:26 left in the game, on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Christian Matthews.

After building the early lead, the Hawks scored once in the third on Crawford's 59-yard run. They tacked on a 45-yard field goal by Hector Zamudio and finished the scoring in spectacular style.

After Jordan's final touchdown, Kameron McFolley returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards to end the scoring.

The game featured a host of players on both teams suffering from leg cramps in the hot, humid opener.
