Mount Paran 26, Brookstone 21: Cougars lose on 39-yard TD pass in the last minute

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Brookstone lost a heartbreaker Friday at Mount Paran Christian School in Atlanta as the Eagles scored on a 39-yard pass with 35 seconds left in the game to escape with a 26-21 win.

The Cougars took the lead 21-20 late in the fourth quarter when freshman running back Aaric Austin scored from 5 yards out. Austin finished with 97 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Brookstone rallied from a 20-7 deficit but fell short in the end and fell to 1-1.

In the first half, Mount Paran capitalized on a Brookstone fumbled punt late in the first quarter, recovering the ball on the Cougars 24-yard line. A few plays later, the Eagles scored on a 3-yard run by Dorian Walker to go up 7-0.

In the second quarter, Brookstone's Hal Mansour recovered a Mount Paran fumble on the Eagles' 14 yard line setting up a Cougars touchdown when quarterback Miller Page ran it in from the 1, tieing the game at 7-7.

Mount Paran took a 14-7 lead into halftime when the Eagles connected on a 34 yard TD pass late in the second quarter.

Brookstone finished with 258 offensive yards compared to Mount Paran's 350.
